Army Busts Alleged Recruitment Scam in Taraba, Warns Nigerians Against Fraudsters

The Nigerian Army has arrested a suspected recruitment fraudster accused of collecting over ₦3.6 million from unsuspecting Nigerians with false promises of securing recruitment slots into the Army.

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army deployed at FOB Wukari took custody of 51-year-old Felix Yadeh after he was apprehended by local vigilantes at Bantaje Village in Wukari LGA of Taraba State.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly collected ₦3,627,000 from victims under the guise of facilitating enlistment into the Nigerian Army. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that his younger brother instructed him to receive the money as “recruitment fees.”

Recovered from the suspect were an Infinix Android phone and ₦3,050 cash. He remains in custody alongside the exhibits as investigations continue to uncover possible accomplices.

Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops and local vigilantes for their swift action and professionalism.

The Brigade also issued a strong warning to the public, stressing that recruitment into the Nigerian Army is completely free, transparent, and merit-based, urging citizens to report anyone demanding money for recruitment opportunities.
