The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has raised alarm over the activities of fraudsters impersonating its Commandant, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye, on various social media platforms.
In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, the Academy disclosed that the scammers are using fake accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) to deceive unsuspecting individuals with fraudulent contract offers.
The NDA described the accounts as deliberate schemes aimed at defrauding members of the public and urged citizens to avoid any interaction with such platforms, warning that engagement is at the individual’s risk.
The Academy clarified that all official communications are only made through its verified channels, including its website (nda.edu.ng), official social media handles, and recognised national newspapers. It also stressed that the Commandant does not conduct official business through personal or unofficial social media accounts.
The public is therefore advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
The statement was signed by the Academy Public Relations Officer, Major Reuben Kovangiya.
