Colombian forward Luis Díaz opened the scoring in the 41st minute, before England captain Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage just seconds into the second half. Kylian Mbappé pulled one back for Madrid in the 74th minute to keep the tie finely balanced ahead of the return leg in Munich next Wednesday.

Bayern will now look to capitalise on home advantage as they aim to seal progression to the semifinals.

In another quarterfinal fixture, Arsenal F.C. claimed a dramatic 1–0 victory over Sporting CP. German midfielder Kai Havertz struck in stoppage time (90+1) to hand the Gunners a slender lead heading into the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Tuesday’s results set the tone for an intense quarterfinal stage, with Europe’s elite clubs battling for a coveted place in the semifinals of the competition.
