The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, signaling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

Congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, the minister urged them to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the fasting period.

He also called on Nigerians to use the holiday to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and sustained prosperity, while encouraging citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged.

Earlier, the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sa’ad Abubakar III, had announced the commencement of Ramadan following the sighting of the crescent moon in multiple locations across the country.
