The Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr. Seyi Jakande, on Saturday received Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, during an official visit that highlighted the council’s role in the state’s renewed campaign for environmental sanitation.

Jakande used the occasion to commend the governor for reinstating the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, describing the initiative as a crucial step toward promoting cleaner and safer communities across Lagos State.

He noted that the exercise aligns with the council’s ongoing efforts to mobilize residents at the grassroots level to take greater responsibility for maintaining a healthy environment.

According to Jakande, environmental sanitation goes beyond routine street cleaning, stressing that it also involves instilling civic discipline and protecting public health.

“The return of the sanitation exercise is not just about sweeping streets; it is about encouraging residents to take responsibility for their environment and safeguarding public health,” he said, adding that leadership must be demonstrated at all levels of government.

In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu confirmed that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will officially resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will subsequently hold on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

He urged residents to actively participate by clearing drainage channels around their homes, disposing of waste properly, and supporting efforts aimed at building a cleaner and flood-resilient Lagos.

The event attracted several dignitaries and community leaders, including the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab; former Senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon; the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe; members of the council cabinet and councillors; market leaders led by the Iyaloja; as well as representatives of Community Development Committees (CDC) and Community Development Associations (CDA).

Residents also joined the officials in reinforcing the message that environmental responsibility begins at the grassroots level.
