Union Bank of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equity with the launch of an inclusion-focused campaign to mark International Women’s Day and International Women’s Month 2026.
The initiative, themed “Give to Gain: Creating Pathways for Inclusion and Endless Opportunities,” places special emphasis on women living with disabilities and women raising children with disabilities, highlighting the need for intentional support systems that promote social and economic empowerment.
As part of the campaign, the Bank organised a flagship engagement event at The Stable, its multipurpose venue in Surulere, Lagos. The gathering brought together women with disabilities, caregivers, advocacy groups, and partner organisations to promote dialogue, mentorship, and resource sharing.
Union Bank also rolled out complementary initiatives, including outreach to disability support centres and collaboration with educational institutions to distribute learning materials to female students with disabilities. In addition, specialised mentorship programmes will provide guidance in education, entrepreneurship, and career development.
Through its women-focused banking platform, alpher, the Bank will further support participants with business sustainability training tailored to women living with disabilities and those raising children with disabilities.
Internally, the Bank is activating WeHub, its employee-led women’s network, to strengthen workplace inclusion and encourage professional development among female staff.
These initiatives align with the global development priorities of the United Nations, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 5 and Sustainable Development Goal 10.
Speaking on the campaign, Chief Brand and Marketing Officer of Union Bank, Olufunmilola Aluko, said inclusion remains a deliberate choice for the Bank.
According to her, while many discussions on women’s empowerment are ongoing, women living with disabilities and mothers raising children with disabilities are often overlooked.
“This year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain,’ reflects our belief that when we intentionally expand access, support, and opportunity for these women, the benefits extend beyond individuals to families, communities, and society as a whole,” she said.
Union Bank said the campaign represents a renewed commitment to deepen inclusion and expand opportunities for underserved communities, ensuring that women who have historically been left behind are given meaningful access to resources and opportunities.
Founded in 1917, Union Bank is one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, with over 300 branches nationwide and a reputation for its “Simpler, Smarter Banking” philosophy.
