Lagos Approves New BRT and Standard Bus Fares

The Lagos State Government has approved a new fare structure for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and standard route services across the state, affecting commuters on major corridors.

Under the revised rates, several high-traffic routes recorded adjustments. On the standard route network, commuters will now pay ₦1,140 for Igando–Obalende, ₦1,030 for Egbeda–Obalende, ₦970 for Ikorodu–Obalende, and ₦1,260 for Ayobo–Obalende. The Marina–Lekki route is pegged at ₦570, while Oshodi–Shasha will cost ₦570.

Other notable fares include Berger–Ajah at ₦1,710, Oshodi–Ajah at ₦1,320, Ikeja–Obalende at ₦720, and Mile 12–Yaba–TBS at ₦690. Routes such as Oshodi–Agege and Ikeja–Iyana Ipaja are set at ₦430 and ₦440 respectively.

For BRT services, Oshodi–Abule Egba will now cost ₦680, while Oshodi–Ayobo, Oshodi–Command and Oshodi–Ikola are fixed at ₦890. Oshodi–Tollgate is ₦970.

Commuters travelling from Ikorodu to TBS will pay ₦960, while Ikorodu–Yaba/Oyingbo/Costain and Ikorodu–Barracks are set at ₦910. The Ikorodu–Mile 12 fare stands at ₦450, while Mile 2–TBS and Ketu–TBS are ₦680 each. Okokomaiko–Oyingbo is ₦910, and Ojo Barracks–Mile 2 is ₦510.

Industry observers note that fare reviews typically reflect prevailing operational realities, including fuel costs, fleet maintenance and service sustainability.

The government is expected to continue monitoring transport operations to balance affordability for commuters with the need to maintain efficient service delivery across Lagos’ expanding transport network.
