APC Screens Aspirants Ahead of Saturday’s Lagos LGA Congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has screened aspirants from the state’s 20 local government areas ahead of its Local Government Congress scheduled for Saturday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has screened aspirants from the state’s 20 local government areas ahead of its Local Government Congress scheduled for Saturday.

The screening exercise was held at the party’s State Secretariat in Ogba, Lagos, under the supervision of members of the LGA/Ward Congress Committee.

Chairman of the committee, Barrister Mungji B. Salama, described the process as orderly and transparent, stressing that consensus arrangements would be upheld where stakeholders reached mutual agreement.

“There is consensus where people agree; they will only need to ratify it,” Salama said, clarifying that no aspirant was formally disqualified during the exercise. “The outcome will be evident when the results are pasted.”

He disclosed that the list of qualified aspirants would be released after the screening, noting that only cleared candidates would participate in the congress. Salama urged those who may not make the final list to remain loyal and committed to the party.

“For those who did not qualify, there will always be another opportunity. Let us conduct this process without rancour,” he appealed, calling for unity and cooperation among party members.

Describing Lagos as a “pacesetter,” Salama said the committee was in the state to discharge its assignment in line with party guidelines while observing the organisational structure of the state chapter. He commended the leadership for what he termed a seamless preparatory process.

In his opening remarks, Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, said the screening marked the concluding phase of preparations for the congress.

“We began the screening process earlier, and tomorrow we will conclude preparations for the local government congress,” he said.

Ojelabi congratulated aspirants in advance and described election into party offices as a call to service and responsibility.

“By this time tomorrow, if you are elected, understand that it is a call to service. Your election presents an opportunity to make meaningful impact and contribute to the growth of the party,” he said.

He further urged aspirants to evaluate their readiness to serve effectively at the grassroots, expressing confidence that those elected would perform their duties credibly.

The Technical Committee includes the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Hundeyin, Yakubu Balogun, Women Leader Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, Attorney-General and Justice Commissioner Lawal Pedro (SAN), and Special Adviser on Housing Adekunle Olayinka.

The congress is expected to produce 27 Executive Officers per LGA, across the state’s 20 local government and ward structures as part of the party’s internal democratic process.
