The Executive Chairman Amuwo Odofin Local Government Council Dr Valentine Oluwaseyi Buraimoh on Friday was presented with the Lagos Panorama Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Grassroots Award.

The award presentation ceremony took place in the Chairman’s Office by the Publisher/Editor of Lagos Panorama Comrade Tayo Aderinola and the Chairman Amuwo Odofin Community Development Committee Pa Anjola Ogunlusi.

Aderinola in his opening remark stated that the essence of the SDG award is to promote the Sustainable Development Goals in the local government administrations.

Aderinola who is the President Community Media Practitioners Association (COMPASS) of Nigeria noted that the award is to acknowledge the multi-faceted achievements of the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of Lagos State created 2003 by the visionary leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The award is to spotlight 10 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS with outstanding performance in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the last 2 years of local government administration in Lagos State”.

He further stated that the Lagos Panorama SDG Grassroots Awards is to identify truly meaningful grass-root developmental efforts by persons, Local governments, non-profit organizations and companies. The categorization of these awards will be in accordance with development indices of universal acceptance”.

“These awards are intended to motivate and spur grass-root development through contributions from all spheres and subsequent edition from 2020 nominees will be nominated by their respective Community Development Committee and voting shall be done by the Community Development Associations across the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas”.

Dr Valentine Buraimoh Lagos Panorama SDG Grassroots award recipient, noted that the local government under his administration has commenced with the SDG initiative since he resumed office.

He expressed his appreciation for the SDG award by the Lagos Panorama team, “I thank Lagos Panorama for finding me worthy for this distinguished award. I want to dedicate the award to the great people of Amuwo Odofin Local Government and the entire staff especially National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for their supports and dedications at their respective duty. Coincidentally they having their swearing in ceremony for their new Executives today”.

“I want to see this award as a challenge for me and my team to do more for the people of Amuwo Odofin Local Government because to whom much is given, greater is expected from him”.

“I want to assure you that you will continue to see monumental development in Amuwo Odofin Local Government. We will also ensure continue improvement of the welfare of all our staff for better performance. Next year will be an improvement of this year by God’s grace. Thank you and God bless” he concluded.

The Council Manager Amuwo Odofin LG Mr. Akitoye Stephen in the vote of thanks on behalf of the council expressed gratitude to the Lagos Panorama Editorial for the novel idea and stated that the award will encourage sustainable development projects at the grassroots. On behalf of all other staff he promised to continue to support the chairman in taking Amuwo Odofin Local Government to greater heights.

Others at the event were the Lagos State President of NULGE Comrade Ajose Afolabi Samako, Amuwo Odofin NULGE out-going Chairman and in-coming Chairman Comrade Tope Ajose and Comrade Haruna Lawal respectively and other well-wishers.
