Arik Air Flight Diverts Safely to Benin After Engine Anomaly

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into an incident involving an Arik Air Boeing 737 aircraft that made a precautionary diversion to Benin Airport after experiencing an engine anomaly.

The aircraft, operating a scheduled flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, reportedly encountered abnormal engine indications during the cruise phase of the journey.

According to the NSIB, the flight crew promptly shut down the affected engine in line with standard safety procedures and safely diverted to Benin Airport. The aircraft landed without incident, and no injuries were recorded among passengers or crew.

The Bureau stated that investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the anomaly. In line with the provisions of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a preliminary report is expected to be released within 30 days.
