Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, have recorded major successes in an ongoing offensive against terrorists and bandits in the Sububu Forests of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The operation, aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring peace to the area, led to the neutralisation of six terrorists, recovery of arms and ammunition, destruction of key terrorist infrastructure, and the rescue of a kidnapped underage victim.
The offensive began with a targeted engagement at Indulumu village, where troops confronted and neutralised two terrorists. An AK-47 rifle was recovered during the encounter, dealing an early blow to the group’s operational capacity.
The Strike Force thereafter advanced to Ruduno village, where troops met further resistance. In a coordinated and decisive operation, four additional terrorists were neutralised. Items recovered included another AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, while two motorcycles used for mobility and logistics were destroyed on site.
In a significant humanitarian outcome, troops, while a
dvancing deeper into the forest, successfully rescued a kidnapped underage victim, identified as Halira Ibrahim. The rescue brought an end to her captivity and reinforced the military’s commitment to protecting civilians, particularly vulnerable groups.
The operation further extended to the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and life-support structures located in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga, and Kukatara. These actions have severely disrupted the terrorists’ logistics and denied them critical safe havens.
The military authorities reaffirmed their resolve to sustain the offensive until terrorist activities in the area are completely dismantled and lasting peace is restored.
