The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, convened its 2025 Post-Election Retreat at Dover Hotel, Ikeja, to review the conduct of the recent Local Government and Local Council Development Area elections and strengthen future electoral processes in the state.
The retreat, themed “From Execution to Evaluation: Building a More Resilient Electoral Process for Lagos State,” brought together Commissioners, Directors, Electoral Officers and key members of staff to critically assess the 2025 elections and consolidate lessons aimed at improving electoral delivery.
In her keynote address, the Chairman of LASIEC, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd.), underscored the importance of institutional self-assessment, accountability and continuous learning, noting that credible elections extend beyond effective execution to honest and thorough evaluation.
She urged electoral officials to embrace innovation, professionalism and integrity, stressing that a resilient electoral system must remain adaptive, people-centred and responsive to emerging challenges.
Earlier, the Supervising Commissioner and Chairman of the Election Training Committee, Hon. Oladele Adekanye, in his welcome address, described the retreat as a vital platform for reflection, constructive feedback and institutional learning. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to enhancing training, operational efficiency and stakeholder engagement to further improve the quality of elections in Lagos State.
In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary of LASIEC, Mr. Abdulrafiu Omowole Fashola, commended the leadership of the Commission and the dedication of its staff during the 2025 elections. He encouraged participants to engage the retreat with openness and professionalism, noting that constructive evaluation is essential to strengthening institutional performance and public confidence.
The retreat featured interactive sessions on key electoral processes, during which participants shared insights and recommendations, reaffirming LASIEC’s commitment to transparent, credible and effective grassroots electoral governance in Lagos State.
