Lagos State Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen confidence in pension administration, with the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, calling on public servants to embrace pension education early in their careers to reduce anxiety and misinformation.
Agoro made the call on Friday at a Pension Awareness Programme organised by the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) at the Public Service Office, Alausa, Ikeja, describing the exercise as a deliberate move to deepen transparency and trust in the system.
“This event is not just an outreach activity, but a deliberate effort to take pension education to the people, particularly Public Servants,” he said.
“It buttresses our belief that information is power and that a well-informed workforce is better positioned to make decisions that affect their future,” Agoro, who was represented by Mrs Olubukola Durodola , Director, Post Service Office, added.
He noted that pensions are central to workers’ welfare, stressing that “pensions are not abstract concepts to us; they represent security, dignity and continuity of care after years of dedicated service,” while admitting that misconceptions and poor awareness had, in some cases, weakened confidence in pension administration.
Commending LASPEC for taking pension enlightenment directly to workplaces, Agoro said pension education should not be delayed until retirement.“Pension awareness must not be limited to retirement age; it must begin early, while officers are still active in service,” he said.
Addressing LASPEC officials, the Head of Service urged them to see their assignment as a trust-building mission.
“You are not merely disseminating information; you are ambassadors of trust, accountability and reassurance,” he said, calling for empathy, clarity and professionalism in engaging public servants.
Agoro reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to sustained pension reforms aligned with global best practices and the THEMES+ Agenda, assuring workers that their welfare, during service and in retirement, remains a top priority.
