The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the ongoing party-wide e-registration exercise is a compulsory and critical reform aimed at strengthening internal democracy, transparency and electoral competitiveness.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party said the exercise, which commenced on Monday and will run until the end of January, is designed to capture all eligible members—both existing and new—into a comprehensive digital membership register.
According to the APC, the initiative reflects the party’s commitment to reform and modern political organisation, stressing that credible political parties must continually adapt to changing democratic realities or risk decline.
The party explained that the e-registration will enhance the credibility of its membership database by eliminating duplication, impersonation and unverified memberships, practices it said often weaken party cohesion and internal order.
“The exercise ensures that every APC member is properly identified, verifiable and duly accounted for. This is the standard for a serious, disciplined political organisation,” the statement noted.
The APC further stated that the process creates a level playing field for all members by dismantling gate-keeping structures and ensuring equal recognition within the party, irrespective of status or length of membership. It added that the initiative also reflects the party’s openness to new members, describing the APC as a growing political movement rather than a closed structure.
Beyond administrative benefits, the party said the e-registration exercise is fundamental to credible congresses, transparent primaries and legitimate leadership selection, all of which depend on a reliable and accurate membership register.
The Lagos APC also highlighted the strategic value of the digital register, particularly in mobilising youths, professionals and first-time political participants, noting that technology-driven engagement is essential for effective grassroots coordination and electoral preparedness.
A data-driven membership system, the party said, would strengthen campaign planning, improve communication with members and enhance overall governance capacity.
The APC expressed confidence that the successful completion of the exercise would further consolidate its position as Nigeria’s leading political party, boasting a verifiable and nationwide membership structure.
The party therefore called on all members and stakeholders to participate fully and promptly in the exercise, stressing that participation is a collective responsibility.
“The APC will continue to reform, expand and lead. The e-registration exercise is a clear signal that the party will not be constrained by inertia or retrogressive interests,” the statement added.
The statement was signed by Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, Spokesman, Lagos State APC, and dated 6 January 2026.
