President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for his sustained investments in education, healthcare and transportation, describing the projects as critical to improving the living standards of the people of the state.
The President gave the commendation in Maiduguri during an official visit to Borno State, as part of his three-state tour covering Borno, Bauchi and Lagos. He arrived in the state capital at about 12:30 p.m. and proceeded to commission a number of key infrastructure projects executed by the Zulum administration.
Among the projects inaugurated were the international wing and a new VIP extension of the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, electric vehicles, intra-state buses, tricycles, as well as three model schools comprising primary, junior secondary and senior secondary facilities.
Speaking at the commissioning of the schools, President Tinubu emphasised the importance of education to national development and the future of the country’s children. “I am commissioning this primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools to the glory of God and the continuous education of our children,” the President said.
During the visit, President Tinubu also attended the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and Hadiza Kam Salem. In line with Kanuri cultural and marriage rites, the President stood in as the father of the groom, while Governor Zulum represented the bride’s family and received the traditional bride price, presented in gold coins.
The wedding ceremony was hosted by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.
The event drew a large gathering of dignitaries, including seven state governors, among them Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, and Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun. Several senators and members of the Federal Executive Council were also in attendance.
President Tinubu departed Maiduguri for Bauchi State at about 3:25 p.m., continuing his official tour.
