Lagos APC Counters Atiku’s Claims, Says Former VP Lacks Moral Standing to Critique National Challenges

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a sharp response to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following his recent criticism accusing both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of contributing to insecurity and hunger in Nigeria.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a sharp response to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following his recent criticism accusing both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of contributing to insecurity and hunger in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party dismissed Atiku’s comments as an attempt to deflect responsibility, describing him as a key actor in the political and economic decisions that shaped Nigeria’s current challenges.

According to the APC, Atiku played a central role in the privatization exercises of the early 2000s, which the party alleged resulted in the loss of national assets, the collapse of several industries, and widespread unemployment. The party argued that the effects of those policies continue to influence the nation’s economic landscape.

The statement further claimed that several national security and governance concerns took root during the PDP’s 16-year administration, insisting that Atiku was not just part of that era but “an influential figure within it.”

The APC also questioned Atiku’s political consistency, referencing his multiple party affiliations over the years and suggesting that his electoral history and public record undermine his credibility on national issues.

Oladejo stated that the APC-led federal government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is working to address longstanding structural problems inherited from previous administrations, adding that ongoing reforms in security and economic management are aimed at rebuilding institutions and stabilizing the country.

The party called on Atiku to “accept responsibility for his role in Nigeria’s political history,” adding that Nigerians are fully aware of the circumstances surrounding past administrations.

The statement concluded by asserting that the APC remains committed to steering the country toward long-term stability and would resist what it described as attempts to “rewrite history for political convenience.”
