Ondo, Nigeria – On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, social media was flooded with unverified reports alleging that graduates of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), mobilized for the one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Gombe State, were involved in a vehicle accident en route to the state.
The reports were met with shock and concern. In response, the University Management immediately contacted relevant security and paramilitary agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, as well as print and electronic media outlets, to verify the claims.
Reassuringly, information obtained from one of the alleged accident victims, an AFUED graduate, clarified the situation. She confirmed that she was involved in an auto crash along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, not on the Bauchi/Gombe highway as circulated online. The accident resulted in two casualties — the driver and one other unidentified individual. The graduate sustained no injuries and has safely joined her colleagues at the Gombe NYSC orientation camp.
The University notes that several reputable media outlets contacted its authorities to verify the authenticity of the reports before publishing, underscoring the importance of fact-checking.
AFUED Management warns that the online story is entirely false and appeals to all media practitioners — print, electronic, and online — to uphold the ethics of journalism, emphasizing truth, objectivity, and fairness. The University also thanks individuals, security agencies, and media organizations that assisted in clarifying the matter.
The Management urges the public, parents, guardians, and stakeholders to disregard the false claims about the alleged deaths of AFUED graduates.
