The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Thursday hosted the management team of the Lagos State Parks & Gardens Agency (LASPARK) at Ikeja House, as both institutions move to deepen collaboration on environmental sustainability and green development.
The delegation, led by LASPARK’s General Manager, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola (née Nelson), visited the council to explore stronger synergy in expanding green infrastructure, improving environmental aesthetics, and promoting eco-friendly practices across Ikeja.
In her remarks, Mrs. Popoola highlighted LASPARK’s core responsibilities, including the development and maintenance of parks and gardens, protection of tree assets, and the promotion of tree planting statewide. She disclosed the Agency’s ambitious plan to plant 25,000 trees across Lagos State between now and July 14, 2026, stressing that Ikeja is strategically positioned to lead this initiative.
Describing Ikeja as “home,” the General Manager pledged LASPARK’s full commitment to ensuring the capital city remains a model of urban greening and environmental management. “We are ready to go all the way to make sure Ikeja stands out in achieving a greener environment,” she affirmed.
Responding, Chairman AKOD expressed appreciation for LASPARK’s visit and reaffirmed Ikeja LG’s readiness to partner on all fronts. He noted that the Agency’s mandate aligns perfectly with the environmental pillar of his administration’s I.K.E.J.A Agenda, adding that the council is committed to supporting programmes that enhance environmental sustainability, community beautification, and improved quality of life for residents.
Also present at the meeting were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore; the Head of Department, Environment; and the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Chief Adeyi Adeniyi.
