Opposition Ignorance on Display Again: Lagos Port Investment Is Economic Genius, Not Sabotage

“You can’t call what you don’t understand sabotage.”

— Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC Spokesman

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed what it described as the opposition’s “comic display of ignorance” over ongoing investments in the Lagos Deep Sea Port, following claims that the Federal Government was “neglecting” other ports across the country.

According to the party’s spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the suggestion that spending $1 billion on the Lagos port project amounts to economic sabotage “only exposes the opposition’s chronic misunderstanding of basic economics and governance.”

“It is laughable that those who should be offering credible alternatives have reduced serious national policy issues to uninformed social media commentary,” Oladejo said.

Fact Check: What the Opposition Refuses to Learn

Oladejo explained that the $1 billion investment in the Lagos Deep Sea Port is not a Lagos-exclusive initiative, but part of a nationwide modernization blueprint under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at positioning Nigeria as West Africa’s premier maritime hub.

He noted that the project, funded through Foreign Direct Investment from China Harbour Engineering Company and Singapore’s Tolaram Group, is an example of global confidence in the Nigerian economy.

Meanwhile, the APC highlighted several ongoing port revitalization projects nationwide, including:

Modernization and digitalization of Onne Port;

Dredging of Calabar Port to increase draft depth and accommodate larger vessels;

Rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Port under a new concessionary framework; and

Warri Port corridor expansion, with new rail link integration for efficient cargo movement.

“These are verifiable projects,” Oladejo added. “The opposition’s inability—or refusal—to acknowledge them only proves that they are more interested in propaganda than progress.”

Economic Vision vs. Political Illiteracy

The APC spokesman emphasized that the Lagos Port investment represents economic foresight, not sabotage.

“The Lekki Deep Sea Port, Nigeria’s first fully automated port, is already transforming port management, cutting vessel turnaround time, and increasing government revenue,” he stated.

He added that such infrastructure projects are creating jobs, enhancing exports, and reducing decades of inefficiency that previously made Nigerian ports some of the costliest in Africa.

A Word of Advice to Peter Obi

Taking a direct swipe at opposition figure Mr. Peter Obi, Oladejo urged him to conduct adequate research before commenting on national issues.

“Constructive intellectual engagement appears to be Mr. Obi’s weakest point,” he said. “It would serve him well to understand issues in depth before rushing to make populist statements that embarrass his followers and the nation.”

Renewed Hope Is a National Agenda, Not a Regional Favor

The APC reiterated that the Tinubu administration’s port development strategy is holistic and inclusive, citing major projects such as the Bonny Deep Sea Port in Rivers, the Ibom Port in Akwa Ibom, and the ongoing Calabar and Warri Port rehabilitation works.

“Lagos may appear to be ahead because here, vision meets execution,” Oladejo said. “President Tinubu’s leadership has always been defined by results, not rhetoric.”

Conclusion

The Lagos APC concluded by reaffirming the administration’s commitment to building a modern, efficient, and competitive economy through strategic infrastructure development.

“Those crying foul over Lagos Port investment should first understand the basics of national economic planning,” the statement read. “Governance is driven by strategy, not sentiment. The opposition can continue shouting from the sidelines — the train of progress has long left the station.”
