The Ambode Comeback Crusaders have appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to consider Akinwunmi Ambode, the former Governor of Lagos State, as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.
In a letter dated September 28 and addressed to the APC National Chairman and the Lagos State Chairman, the convener, Abiodun Fashola, emphasized Ambode’s proven capacity as a leader, citing his tenure from 2015 to 2019 as a demonstration of exemplary leadership across infrastructure, public transport, and healthcare.
The letter showcased Ambode’s financial management expertise, recognizing his role in solidifying Lagos’s position as Nigeria’s economic hub. It also applauded his inclusive governance style, which the group noted made him “a leader who listens to both stakeholders and ordinary citizens.”
“As you deliberate on candidates for the upcoming elections, we urge you to reflect on the wider benefits of granting Ambode a second term. His track record and vision align seamlessly with the APC’s ideals of progress and development,” the letter stated.
The group asserted that reinstating Ambode would usher Lagos into a fresh era of prosperity and innovation, while strengthening APC’s reputation as a party of growth and transformation.
Copies of the letter were also forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other prominent political stakeholders in the state.
Ambode, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, succeeded Babatunde Fashola as governor in 2015 but was denied a second-term ticket in 2019 after losing the APC primary to Governor Sanwo-Olu.
