Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has secured a two-year contract with Al Hilal in the Saudi Women’s League after completing her move from Bay FC in the National Women’s Soccer League.

The 30-year-old, who had joined the NWSL outfit in February 2024 following a highly successful period at FC Barcelona Femeni, underwent medical examinations on Monday night and has now joined her new team, initiating a new chapter in her illustrious career.

The striker missed Bay FC’s 2-1 defeat to Angel City on Monday night, with a report from The Athletic indicating that Bay FC and Al Hilal have agreed on an undisclosed transfer fee, and Oshoala is now in Saudi Arabia ahead of a scheduled medical.

During her time in the United States, Oshoala made 25 top-flight appearances, 23 of which were starts last season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. In total, she played 38 games and scored eight goals.

Her role in Bay FC’s set-up had decreased significantly since last season, with head coach Albertin Montoya pointing to her struggles with adapting to the NWSL’s playing style and defensive expectations as the reason for her limited minutes this season.

He said, “In this league you have to, and that’s something that we’re working with her.

“So when she gets that and has the confidence in front of the goal to score goals and helps us defensively, and that’s why with Caroline Conti, she gives us something else defensively.”

Her decision to relocate to the Gulf state provides an opportunity for career revitalization. As a six-time Women’s Africa Player of the Year, she has accumulated experience playing for top clubs in Europe, Asia, and the USA.

Furthermore, she contributed to the Super Falcons’ squad that achieved a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco in July.
