The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Monday presented free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to indigent students across Ikeja, demonstrating his commitment to youth empowerment and educational advancement.
The Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD) Educational Support Programme has been initiated to ease the financial burden on talented yet underprivileged students, ensuring that no child in Ikeja is denied access to educational opportunities due to financial constraints.
During the presentation of the forms, Comrade Dauda emphasized that education remains the most effective means of breaking the cycle of poverty, describing the initiative as one of several strategic interventions his administration has planned to provide Ikeja youths with a solid foundation to compete globally.
It is noteworthy that the Ikeja Council Chairman has consistently placed a high priority on youth development since taking office.
His administration has implemented various initiatives, including: Holiday Job Programme, which provided over 250 Ikeja youths with work experience and stipends during the ongoing long vacation.
International Youth Day Engagement, where Ikeja youths were mobilized and inspired on leadership, innovation, and civic responsibility.
The forthcoming Skill-Up Ikeja Project, designed to equip young people with digital and vocational skills for a competitive global economy.
He reiterated his unwavering dedication to the Ikeja Youth Master Plan, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at preparing youths for opportunities both locally and internationally, thereby reassuring Ikeja residents.
Additionally, he announced that recipients of the free GCE forms would receive free tutorial classes, with top-performing candidates being awarded scholarships.
Also in attendance were the Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Abisola Omisore (OMITUNTUN), all six councillors led by the leader of the House, Hon. Rasheed Adisa Ogunseye, and the council’s management staff led by the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko.
