The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission LASIEC has officially declared APC Ikeja chairmanship candidate Akeem Dauda as the winner of the July 12 Lagos Local Government election in the council area on Saturday.
After the six respective ward Returning Officers announced the Ward results, the Returning Officer for Ikeja local Government Chairmanship Election, Mr Salami Ojo, declared the APC flag bearer winner after he secured a total of 12,139 votes, while Oyenkwelu Nnamdi Vincent of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, garnered 457.
Dauda, who also won his polling unit by a landslide, obtained 2,726 votes, decisively defeating PDP in his Anifiwoshe Ward D, who secured only 61 votes by a wide margin.
In the aftermath of the exercise, Comrade AKOD, in the company of his wife, Mrs Tope Dauda and his vice Hon Abisola Omisore, addressed the press, articulating his satisfaction with the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission’s organization of a peaceful and transparent election.
He also conveyed his appreciation to the residents of Ikeja who participated en masse in the electoral process, highlighting that democracy flourishes when citizens are actively engaged and pledged not to disappoint them for entrusting him with their votes.
The APC achieved a clean sweep, winning all six Councillorship positions, one in each ward of the local government.
Earlier on Saturday, voters were observed casting their ballots in a peaceful and orderly fashion at the polling stations visited by the Lagos Panorama crew, under the watchful eyes of deployed security personnel who maintained law and order during the exercise.
Similar reports were received from other polling stations across the six wards in the State capital.
LASIEC is set to officially declare the winners of the Lagos Councils Elections on Sunday afternoon.
