The Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has entered into a strategic partnership with HERhealthEQ, a New York-based non-profit organization, to enhance maternal and child healthcare services in low-income communities across the state.
Welcoming the CEO and Founder of HERhealthEQ, Ms. Marissa Fayer, the Special Adviser on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, emphasised the transformative impact of technology in improving healthcare outcomes.
The partnership with HERhealthEQ has facilitated the donation of 10 Butterfly iQ+ handheld ultrasound devices to Lagos hospitals to enhance maternal health screenings.
The device, which is a handheld, whole-body imaging solution, is designed for point-of-care diagnostics, facilitating obstetric assessments, maternal health evaluations, cardiac and vascular examinations, and pediatric interventions.
Speaking on the devices, Dr. Finnih underscored the importance of leveraging innovative solutions to strengthen maternal healthcare, particularly in underserved communities.
She noted that deploying advanced diagnostic tools like the Butterfly iQ+ would significantly improve access to quality prenatal care and enhance early detection of maternal health risks.
Reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s commitment to SDG Goal 3, ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, the Special Adviser highlighted the administration’s dedication to fostering strategic partnerships that drive impactful healthcare interventions.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the partnership, Ms. Marissa Fayer commended Lagos State’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through technology-driven solutions.
She reiterated HERhealthEQ’s mission to bridge global health disparities by equipping healthcare facilities with life-saving medical technology and pledged continued support for maternal and child health programmes in Lagos.
As part of the partnership, Ms. Marissa Fayer joined the SDGs team on a tour of selected public and private hospitals, including Ikorodu Primary Healthcare Centre, Iya-Elewa; Gbaja General Hospital, Randle; Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja; Duchess International Hospital, GRA, Ikeja and the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos Island.
The tour provided an opportunity to assess existing healthcare infrastructure and explore avenues for the seamless integration of ultrasound technology into maternal healthcare services.
