has expressed grave concern over the alarming rise in insecurity across the country.

The group said this in a statement in Abuja.

NIREC noted the several incidents that have occurred within a short span, calling on the government to act fast.

“The killing of 13 farmers in Shiroro LGA of Niger State, the abduction of 150 persons in Gobir District and the gruesome murder of the District Head of Gatawa, both in Sokoto State.

“Also, the foiled bandit attacks in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. These are all things of concern, ” it said.

NIREC called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts towards eradicating these threats to public safety and ensuring that citizens go about their daily lives without fear.

The Council also extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and prayed for the safe return of those still held captive.

It urged all Nigerians to remain vigilant, cautious, and report any suspicious activities, emphasising that security is a collective responsibility and not solely the government’s duty.

NIREC was established in 1999 to promote religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and good governance in Nigeria.
