THE Lagos State Government, yesterday, commenced demolition of all marked shanties and other illegal structures erected along the Gbagada-Bariga drainage channel.
This followed the expiration of a 48-hour quit notice issued by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab to owners of Illegal structures along water channels in the area.
Recall that the Gbagada axis witnessed massive flooding following a heavy downpour last Wednesday, causing untold hardship on motorists and residents.
Wahab, through his official X handle, attributed the menace by the squatters as a major factor to the perennial flooding in the area.
He said: “Following the expiration of a removal notice to owners of shanties beside Bariga-Gbagada Drainage Channel, operatives of the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance department from Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources commenced the removal of all the shanties on the drainage setback to stem the incident of flooding.”
