Troops of the Headquarters 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have reinforced their ongoing offensive operations across Taraba State, recording significant gains that include the destruction of criminal camps, neutralisation of armed elements, recovery of weapons, and the arrest of a major suspect linked to bandit activities in the region.
The latest achievements followed a deliberate clearance operation conducted on 2 December 2025 under Operation Zafin Wuta across Shiid, Agia and Tyozua communities in Takum Local Government Area. The operation was triggered by credible intelligence on the presence of armed groups operating within the Tor-Tser axis.
According to military sources, the bandits abandoned their camps and fled further into the mountainous terrain as troops advanced. A thorough search of the area led to the destruction of the hideouts, which the criminals had long claimed were inaccessible to security forces. In Tyozua, the fleeing bandits reportedly set fire to a wooden bridge in an attempt to slow down the troops, but the soldiers pressed on, forcing the armed men across the power line toward neighbouring Benue State. One suspect, Dahiru Maigari, was arrested during the operation and is currently undergoing investigation.
In a separate development, troops on a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido on 4 December 2025 came under fire from armed bandits concealed near Wudompi Community. The soldiers swiftly repelled the attack, neutralising two assailants. A search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition, with no casualties reported among the troops. Preliminary assessment indicates that the attackers were linked to the Karimjo faction, which has recently attempted to regroup in the area. Security in Karim Lamido has since stabilised, with troops maintaining heightened vigilance.
Reacting to the series of successes, the Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the professionalism and bravery exhibited by the troops. He reiterated that no terrain is beyond the reach of the Nigerian Army and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to pursuing criminal elements wherever they may flee.
He assured residents of Taraba State that operations would be sustained until all threats to peace and stability are decisively addressed.
