Speaking earlier, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said the state is witnessing the first phase of the remodelling, which was flagged off in August 2020.

He said after completion, the remodelling will bring the sports complex at par with other sports complexes.

The pitch, changing rooms, seats, gymnasium, indoor sports centre, changing rooms, VAR room and many others have all been renovated while other sporting facilities within the complex will be fully completed by December.

To meet with FIFA’s requirements, the main bowl now has a natural turf. The spectator stand of the main bowl now, has a roof over it, while the tartan track of the complex has been repaired too.

Before now, the main bowl had just two changing rooms, which were not up to standard, but now, it has four large changing rooms, a studio and VAR room.

The indoor sports hall, administrative blocks are also being renovated. Their services were all gone but right now, their services have been put in place – windows, tiles, painting among other things.

Part of the remodelling process is the resurfacing of the Tennis Court, Handball Court and other courts. Now, there are two new projects in the offing – the centre Court for Tennis, which was not in existence before.

The process will also birth a composite building, which houses wrestling, boxing, kick-boxing and gymnastic and a new swimming pool.

On the maintenance of the sports complex, after the commissioning and final completion of the project, the contractor will stay back for one year for maintenance and to train in-house hands on how to maintain the facilities within the sports complex after the contractor leaves.
