Lagos, Nigeria — Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to consolidate the achievements of his administration over the past six and a half years by completing and commissioning several iconic and transformational projects across the state in 2026.
The Governor said the plans and programmes for the year would be driven by the 2026 budget, tagged “The Budget of Shared Prosperity,” currently before the Lagos State House of Assembly. He explained that the budget, with an expenditure profile exceeding ₦4 trillion, is anchored on four pillars: a human-centred approach, modern infrastructure, a thriving economy and effective governance.
According to him, the budget is designed to deliver a model Lagos that is cleaner, safer, more prosperous, resilient and inclusive.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the pledge on Sunday at the 2026 Lagos Annual Thanksgiving Service, themed “Grateful for Unfailing Mercies,” held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. The event was organised by the First Family of Lagos State in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He described the thanksgiving service as an opportunity to appreciate God for His enduring mercy upon Lagos State and its residents, noting that the new year presents fresh opportunities for growth and development.
The Governor said Lagosians would benefit from a wide range of projects, including construction and rehabilitation of roads, educational and healthcare facilities, youth and sports centres, drainage and flood control systems, housing schemes, water projects, waste management plants, court buildings, bus and ferry terminals, as well as the Omi Eko project.
“We are now a few days into a new year, with hundreds of days ahead filled with promise and opportunity to improve our State and our nation,” Sanwo-Olu said. “By the grace of God, Lagos State will not waste this abundance of opportunity. Under my leadership, we will continue to consolidate the gains of the past six and a half years, guided by our THEMES+ development agenda.”
He noted that 2026 would be particularly significant as it marks his final full year in office, stressing that he is determined to make it a year of exceptional impact and value for Lagosians.
Among the projects slated for completion and commissioning in 2026 are the Ojo General Hospital, Odo Iya-Alaro Link Bridge, the new Massey Children’s Hospital, the Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub in Epe, the new Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu Ereyun, Epe, and the Multi-Storey Office Complex in Alausa.
The Governor also listed key road projects to be delivered this year, including the Igbogbo–Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Igbe Road, Agric Isawo–Konu–Arepo Road (Phase One), Gberigbe Road in Ikorodu, and the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge with its approach roads in Ikeja.

Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as the “father of modern Lagos,” and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for initiating the tradition of an annual thanksgiving service during President Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State. He also commended religious leaders for their continued prayers and support for the state.
The thanksgiving service was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and his wife, Oluremi; the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; Distinguished Member House of Representatives Rt Hon James Abiodun Faleke; current and former public office holders; as well as religious, traditional and political leaders. The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, read the first lesson from Psalm 89:1–8, while gospel ministers led praises and clerics offered prayers for the nation, the state and its leaders.
