2023 Presidency: I’m in the race to break shackles holding down Nigerians – Tinubu

A pro-Tinubu-Shettima group, the Progressive Sisters Network (PSN), has said that All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kassim Shetitima present the greatest hope of equity for Nigerian women.

The group hinged its assertion on the public service track records of both men.

National Coordinator of the group Ms Ronsola Abiola said this in Abuja during the inauguration and swearing-in of the national and state coordinators of the group as well asthe flag off of nationwide “Sister-to-Sister Campaign” for Tinubu-Shetttima.

Abiola recalled Tinubu invested heavily in women’s empowerment during his eight- year tenure as Lagos Governor.

According to the PSN Coordinator: “As a son of an Iyaloja and father to another, he understands better than anyone else the economic importance of our women and has a track record of empowering and uplifting women, both economically and politically.

“I make it bold to say that there is no leader in Nigeria’s political space who can lay claim to empowering and mentoring as many women as Asiwaju has, and I throw a challenge to other presidential candidates and their supporters to tell us what they have done for women.

“A man who is married to a ranking senator and who has evidently not attempted to stifle her growth, will most certainly not attempt to suppress Nigerian women or treat us like we are inferior.

“His policies will not be repressive and his dealings with us will not be unfair. He has proven beyond all doubt that he wants the best for the women around him and if elected president, he will work towards delivering the best for Nigerian women.”

Eulogising the APC Presidential running mate, the PSN National Coordinator, who is a daughter Bashorun MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, also noted that Shettima excelled as a Governor in Borno State where he appointed four female commissioners.

According to Abiola: “His administration also had several initiatives geared at empowering women and he is known to support women who venture into the murky waters of Nigerian politics. He is a true He-For-She champion.

“These are men who have proven that they consider women as fellow citizens and highly valued partners in our democratic journey.

“Our mandate in the Progressive Sisters Network is to take the message of hope offered to Nigerian women by these two remarkable men to every nook and cranny of this country, and I am pleased to state that we have built structures in each of the six geo-political zones that can deliver on this promise.”

On the campaign programme of the group, Abiola said the the network was set to moblise women’s votes for Tinubu and his running mate through the Sister-to-Sister Campaign.

“As the name suggests, the campaign is geared at mobilising fellow women by engaging them extensively on the many reasons why Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be their preferred presidential candidate.

“We understand that different parts of the country and different segments of the population therein require a unique approach, and we will deploy campaign tools and tactics which are tailored to the different groups of women we engage.”
