Senegal has become the first African country to reach the semi-final of the ongoing 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup after beaten the most-successful nation Brazil at the quarter-finals.

Senegal defeated Brazil 5 goals to 4 after extra time this August 26 at the Luzhniki Beach Soccer Arena in Moscow to claim the outstanding victory and the first for the African continent.

The goals for Senegal were scored by Mamour Diagne (9mins), Mandione Diagne (25mins, 39mins), and Raoul Mendy (34mins, 38mins).

Senegal is the most successful African nation in Beach Soccer, having won six times the African Beach Soccer cup of Nations, more than any other national team. Six players have been involved in scoring the goals for the side as they reached the semi-final.

Senegal will face Japan who defeated Tahiti 5-4 after extra time in the semi-final of the Beach Soccer World Cup presently ongoing in Russia. The semifinal game will take place on August 28, 2021.

It has been a brilliant campaign for the Senegalese who won Group D with 6 points after three games. The team played against formidable opponents in Uruguay, Portugal and Oman and came out top. Senegal won Uruguay 6-1 in the opening game before beaten Portugal 5-3 in the second game.

The last group game for Senegal was a 3-2 loss to Oman. But the country bounced back to win Brazil, who was regarded as the favourites in the competition.

Raoul Mendy has been outstanding for Senegal finding the back of the net 6 times. He is just one goal shy of the top spot with Leo Martins of Portugal with 7 goals and Dejan Stankovic of Switzerland with 7 goals too. Raoul Mendy can add to his tally with two games remaining for Senegal.
