Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ₦3.8 million ransom during a daring operation against armed bandits in Kogi State.
The successful operation, carried out on November 2, 2025, was based on credible intelligence about kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis, and reports that relatives of abducted persons were preparing to deliver ransom payments.
In a statement released by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Oguma, swiftly mobilized to Achigili Forest, where the suspected kidnappers were reportedly holding their victims.
However, while advancing toward the target location, the troops came under heavy fire from the bandits. The soldiers, described as “gallant and tactically superior,” immediately returned fire, overpowering the criminals in a fierce gun battle that forced them to flee with gunshot wounds, abandoning their captives and the ransom money.
According to the statement, “The troops rescued the victims and recovered the sum of ₦3,800,000 intended for ransom payment. The rescued persons were debriefed to aid further operations, while the recovered cash was returned to them.”
The Nigerian Army confirmed that the victims are safe and receiving care at the troops’ location before being handed over to relevant authorities.
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, Abdullahi noted that the operation reflects the Army’s renewed resolve to stamp out criminal elements from Kogi State and other parts of the country.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute and unwavering in its determination to protect lives and property. Members of the public are therefore enjoined to continually support the military and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information,” the statement read.
The rescue marks another successful counter–kidnapping operation in the North Central region as troops intensify efforts to curb insecurity and restore peace in the area.
