WAFCON: Zambia beat Falcons to claim bronze medal

The Copper Queens of Zambia beat the Super Falcons 1-0 to claim the bronze medal in the third-place match of the 2022 WAFCON, Friday.

The Copper Queens of Zambia beat the Super Falcons 1-0 to claim the bronze medal in the third-place match of the 2022 WAFCON, Friday.

An own goal by Chiamaka Nnadozie in the first half led to the defeat and Zambia picking a medal for the first time.

The Super Falcons could not recover as the Copper Queens held on to their advantage to get the victory at the Stade Mohammed V, Casablanca.

Super Falcons campaign at the tournament ended in a defeat just like their opening group loss to the Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

Nigeria was expected to win the WAFCON 2022 with their star-studded side, however, a her 2-1 loss to South Africa and a 4-5 penalty shootout lost to host Morocco shattered the Super Falcons’ La Decima dream.

They had decided to settle for bronze medal were again denied by the Zambian side, who seemed to be more committed to winning.
