Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has charged all Muslims to continue praying for the country and its leaders to achieve success in the task of providing leadership under the challenging situation facing the nation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the call while speaking at the Year 2022 Annual Ramadan Lecture of the Lagos State Council of the Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, implored Muslims to seek the face of Allah and renew their faith by showing love and brotherliness to one another.
Speaking further, Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed the need for everyone to continually create a conducive environment for religious tolerance and harmony in society, adding that Nigerians should not allow satanic spirit to take over the country.
Maintaining that Lagos remains the number one location of choice for investors and tourists in the nation, the Governor stated that the only way it can retain the position is to ensure that peace continues to reign in the State.
He, therefore, commended the religious leaders for their continuous efforts and admonitions in ensuring that people continue to live in peace despite the difference in religion and opinions.
In his lecture titled “Before It Gets Darker”, the National Missioner of Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria and Overseas, Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Olanrewaju Ahmad, urged everyone to make amendments, take stock of all their deeds and seek forgiveness of their sins from the Almighty God before it gets too late.
He added that the night will certainly fall for everyone as it is inevitable for everyone to taste death, therefore, he admonished everyone to calm down and evaluate the essence of being created.
The cleric further implored that every Muslim should shun negative behaviour and social vices while seeking the face of God genuinely before it gets too late as “no one should die as a sinner”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Council Chairman of Ansar-ud-deen Society Nigeria, Alhaji Abd’Rahman Olabode Salaudeen, stressed the benefits of Ramadan as very enormous and encouraged everyone to strive in the cause of Allah to grasp the ample opportunity therein.
He added that all Muslims should always remember the traits and dependence upon Allah as it leads to humility, reverence, piety, and selflessness.
“Let us assist one another with food, money and all other items needed to make fasting easy,” he said.
