Education district IV honours outstanding Staff

… Urges Awardees To Be Worthy Role Models

The Supervising Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District IV, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, has presented awards of recognition to some outstanding staff and students for their contributions to the development of education and excellence in learning within the District.

Addressing the awardees and dignitaries during the 14th Annual Merit Award ceremony tagged “Excellence in the Midst of Pandemic”, held at the New Era Girls Hall, Surulere, Lagos, the TG/PS, called on the awardees to remain role models to other teachers and students of the District in both conduct and academic excellence.

She stated that the feat attained by the awardees can be surpassed by other teachers and students if they work hard, remain committed, pursue excellence and dare to be extraordinary in their academics.

According to her, this year’s award was instituted to recognise teachers who continued to work hard and diligently despite the challenges of the pandemic and emerging global crisis as it affects teaching and learning.

While noting that the teachers rose up to the task of teaching the students despite the pandemic plaguing the entire world, Adekanye affirmed that the awardees, comprising of teaching, non-teaching staff and students, were all being recognised based on excellent performances at their various duty posts.

She also used the opportunity to appreciate the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising the welfare of teachers, as well as paying special attention to the education sector.

Speaking on the performances of the District in the last three months, the Supervising TG/PS, reported that Obele Community Girls Junior High School and Gbaja Girls Junior High School, Surulere, won the State preliminary of the National Mathematics Competition (NMC) for Junior Girls and represented the State at the National finals at Mathematical Centre Abuja.

In addition, she also revealed that “Ansar-Ur-Deen Senior High School, Randle, Surulere, clinched the first position at the World Food Day Essay competition, while Gbaja Girls Senior Girls High School also emerged as the top winner at the Organisation for Women in Science for the Development of World Annual Competition.

The President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Mrs. Moronkeji Folashade, one of the award recipients, was recognised for her outstanding and immense contributions to the growth, excellent coordination and management of all Principals in the State while Mr. Adeshina Adedoyin, the NUT President, Lagos State also received a similar award.
