The 13th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU) has honoured the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, at a valedictory session held in recognition of her tenure and contributions to the University.
The ceremony, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Council Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, brought together members of the Governing Council, Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Heads of Staff Unions and members of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
In their goodwill messages, speakers commended Professor Olatunji-Bello for her dedication, professionalism, leadership qualities and commitment to the growth and development of LASU throughout her tenure.
Speaking at the occasion, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr Babatunde Ogala, SAN, OFR, praised the Vice-Chancellor for the grace, professionalism and dedication with which she discharged her responsibilities.
Ogala described Professor Olatunji-Bello as a “go-getter” and a “teacher of teachers,” highlighting her willingness to learn, caring disposition, religious tolerance and ability to effectively navigate the demands of leadership. He also commended her contributions to LASU and her efforts in advancing ideas with broader national significance.
As part of the ceremony, the Pro-Chancellor presented a commemorative gift to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the members of the Governing Council in appreciation of her service to the University.
Responding, Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed gratitude to the Governing Council for its guidance, support and constructive engagements throughout her tenure. She also appreciated the Principal Officers for sharing the responsibilities of leadership, as well as the Senate and distinguished academics for protecting the University’s academic standards and integrity.
She commended the Deans and Directors for their roles in promoting academic excellence and acknowledged the contributions of unions and staff associations through constructive engagements. She equally appreciated the University’s alumni for their support and understanding, as well as the Lagos State Government for providing the opportunity and support that enabled her administration to serve.
Reflecting on the achievements of her administration, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the progress recorded in academic excellence, infrastructure development and institutional reputation was a collective achievement.
She attributed the successes to the pursuit of clear goals, accountability, discipline and alignment with the University’s vision, stressing that leadership positions and titles are temporary, while the relationships built, memories created and institutional impact achieved endure beyond tenure.
Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed pride in being part of the LASU family and wished the incoming Vice-Chancellor a successful tenure.
She prayed for the continued growth, stability and advancement of the University, noting that the sustained progress of LASU would remain the strongest evidence of successful leadership.
