Nigeria Media Nite-Out Award Chairman, Sola Olugbemiro ‘Solkem’, Dies

Mr. Sola Olugbemiro, popularly known as “Solkem,” Chairman of the Governing Board of the prestigious Nigeria Media Nite-Out Award, has passed away.

Mr. Sola Olugbemiro, popularly known as “Solkem,” Chairman of the Governing Board of the prestigious Nigeria Media Nite-Out Award, has passed away.

Olugbemiro reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after he was found unconscious inside his car and rushed to a hospital for medical attention. He was later pronounced dead while still in a coma.

Information available indicates that the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, who was reportedly abroad at the time, intervened by sending funds to support Olugbemiro’s medical treatment after being informed of his condition. Despite the intervention and efforts to save his life, the media practitioner eventually died while still in a coma.

Olugbemiro was also the publisher of Access Weekly News and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s media and entertainment industry. His death is a significant loss to the media community and the organisers of the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Award.

He is survived by his wife, children and aged mother.

Details of his funeral arrangements are yet to be released by his family.
