Veteran Nollywood Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after battling stage-four cancer.

Veteran Nollywood Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after battling stage-four cancer.

His daughter, Kira Hassan, confirmed the actor’s death in an emotional Instagram Live session on Sunday evening.

“My daddy is dead. I can’t believe it,” Kira said as she announced the heartbreaking development.

Ogogo’s death came just days after Kira publicly disclosed that her father was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for support as the family sought appropriate medical treatment for the veteran actor.

Before his death, efforts were reportedly made to secure quality medical care for the respected thespian. Among those who reportedly offered financial assistance was the Ogun State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi.

The actor’s health crisis had also taken a heavy emotional toll on his family. In a recent social media broadcast, Kira spoke candidly about her father’s condition, expressing fears over his deteriorating health and the impact it was having on the family.

She also alleged that some individuals were attempting to profit from the family’s difficult situation by demanding large sums of money while claiming to offer assistance.

Kira said the family’s priority was to ensure that Ogogo received the best possible medical care, adding that the financial demands being placed on them had become overwhelming.
She also revealed the deep bond between Ogogo and his brother, whom she described as her “big daddy”, saying the actor’s illness had been particularly devastating for him.
Reflecting on her father’s condition before his death, Kira had expressed the difficulty of imagining life without him.

“I don’t know how I will feel. I don’t even know how I will see the world again,” she had said.

Ogogo, one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema, enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an actor and filmmaker, earning widespread admiration for his memorable performances and contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
His death marks a painful loss to Nollywood, particularly the Yoruba film community, where he remained a respected veteran and influential figure.

Tributes are expected to continue pouring in from colleagues, fans, friends and admirers as the Nigerian entertainment industry mourns the passing of one of its celebrated veterans.
