The Ikeja Farmers Association (IFA) has honoured the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olamilekan Dauda, with a leadership and outstanding achievement award in recognition of his exemplary contributions to agricultural development in the council area.
The award presentation took place on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Conference Hall of Ikeja Local Government during the association’s monthly general meeting.
Although Comrade Dauda was unavoidably absent due to other official engagements, the award was received on his behalf by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Adeyi Adeniyi, who is also a member of the association.
The association also presented an achievement award to the Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services, Comrade Tayo Aderinola, in recognition of his dedication, valuable support and commitment to the association and the farming community in Ikeja.
Responding, Comrade Aderinola expressed appreciation to the Ikeja Farmers Association for the honour and recognition, assuring members of his continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting agriculture and improving the welfare of farmers.
Another major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the association’s comprehensive membership database by its President, Mr. Marthins. The database is expected to be formally presented to the Executive Chairman in the coming days.
Members also showcased some of their agricultural products, including fresh vegetables, maize and fish, which were presented to the council leadership as part of efforts to demonstrate the productivity and potential of farmers within Ikeja.
Speaking further, the IFA President announced preparations for the 2026 World Food Day celebration scheduled for October 16, 2026. He disclosed that arrangements had been concluded with the local government for the transportation of members to and from the venue.
According to him, the event will provide an opportunity for members to showcase their agricultural products and further promote the contribution of local farmers to food production and food security.
The President also encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and remain prepared to take advantage of any future empowerment opportunities. Members without PVCs were advised to register when the electoral registration exercise resumes.
The meeting also featured a report from a representative who had been mandated to inquire about the registration process for a cooperative society. Interested members were encouraged to join the cooperative voluntarily, with the association stressing that participation would not be compulsory.
The meeting ended with renewed calls for greater cooperation among members and stronger collaboration between the farmers’ association and Ikeja Local Government to advance agricultural development and empower farmers across the community.
