Leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, has reinforced its commitment to community development and social impact with a major intervention at Heritage Homes Orphanage in Anthony Village, Lagos, improving both the learning and living conditions of children at the facility.
The initiative was carried out under the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), the bank’s flagship employee-driven corporate social responsibility initiative. The programme enables staff to identify impactful community projects, raise funds for their implementation, with Fidelity Bank providing matching support to execute the projects.
The intervention, led by the bank’s newly inducted Audacious Class of employees, addressed several urgent needs at the orphanage. These included the renovation of the facility through the replacement of its damaged roof and POP ceiling, fumigation of the premises, donation of essential food supplies, and payment of school fees for some of the children.
Speaking during the outreach, the Divisional Head of Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to empowering employees to make meaningful contributions to their communities.
According to him, the Audacious Class identified Heritage Homes Orphanage after assessing its most pressing needs and successfully executed three key interventions—facility renovation, food support, and educational assistance.
“This is what the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme is about. It gives our employees the opportunity to contribute their time, resources and talents towards improving lives in the communities where we operate,” he said.
Nwagboh added that the intervention has provided the children with a safer environment, improved access to food, and the assurance that their education will continue.
“We are delighted to be part of their journey. Today, these children have a secure roof over their heads, access to essential food supplies and the assurance that their education will continue. This is the kind of sustainable impact the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme was designed to achieve,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the orphanage, the Assistant General Manager of Heritage Homes Orphanage, Irene Light, described the gesture as timely and life-changing.
She expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank for renovating the roof, replacing the damaged ceiling, fumigating the home, donating food items, and paying the school fees of some of the children.
“Their generosity has brought relief, comfort and renewed hope to everyone in this home,” she said, noting that the intervention has restored dignity to the facility and created a safer, more conducive environment for the children.
She also prayed for the continued growth and success of the bank, commending its dedication to improving lives through impactful community initiatives.
