Sanwo-Olu to declare AAAN’s 53rd AGM, Congress open in Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, will declare open the 53rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Congress of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), scheduled to hold from July 23 to 24, 2026, at the Providence Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The two-day event will bring together key players in advertising, marketing, media, government and the broader creative economy to examine the forces reshaping Nigeria’s advertising industry.

With the theme, “AdVolution: The End of Advertising as We Know It and How to Win What Comes Next,” this year’s congress comes against the backdrop of rapid changes driven by artificial intelligence, digital platforms, evolving consumer behaviour and the expanding creator economy.

Participants will deliberate on some of the industry’s most pressing issues, including the shift from interruption-based advertising to participation-led engagement, the evolution of agencies into technology-driven businesses, the rise of the creator economy and the need to move beyond traditional commission-based models towards delivering measurable business outcomes.

Speaking ahead of the event, AAAN President, Lanre Adisa, described the theme as both timely and critical to the future of the profession.

“This year’s AGM comes at a defining moment for our industry. AdVolution captures the reality we are all facing—a period of deep change that is reshaping how we work, create and deliver value. This gathering is an opportunity for industry players to come together, exchange ideas and shape the next chapter of advertising in Nigeria,” he said.

Activities will begin on July 23 with a members-only business session, featuring the president’s stewardship address, committee reports and deliberations on the association’s progress and strategic direction.

The main conference, scheduled for July 24, will be declared open by Governor Sanwo-Olu. Also expected at the event are the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Dr. Lekan Fadolapo, senior government officials and leading stakeholders in the marketing communications industry.

The conference will feature keynote presentations by Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Chief Marketing Officer of Fidelity Bank, and Tomiwa Aladekomo, Chief Executive Officer of Big Cabal Media, who will examine emerging trends and opportunities shaping the future of advertising.

The event will culminate in the AAAN Gala and Awards Night, where individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s advertising industry will be honoured.

As the umbrella body for advertising agencies in Nigeria, AAAN said it remains committed to promoting professionalism, creativity, innovation and collaboration across the nation’s marketing communications ecosystem.
