The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has expanded its operational fleet with the deployment of 10 new compactor trucks to improve waste evacuation and enhance environmental sanitation across Lagos State.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, unveiled the trucks and commended the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) for donating the vehicles, describing the gesture as a strong demonstration of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improved public service through strategic inter-agency collaboration.
According to him, the additional compactors will significantly strengthen LAWMA’s operational capacity, improve waste collection efficiency, and enhance service delivery across the state.
“This generous donation reinforces our capacity to provide more efficient and reliable waste management services to Lagosians. As our population continues to grow, continuous investment in critical operational assets such as these is essential for sustaining a cleaner, healthier and more liveable city,” Dr. Gbadegesin said.
He stressed that the donation reflects the importance of collaboration among government agencies in addressing environmental challenges, noting that sustainable waste management requires consistent investment in modern equipment, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
“Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility. We commend the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority for this timely intervention and for supporting our ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management operations. Together, we are building a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Lagos,” he added.
Dr. Gbadegesin disclosed that the newly acquired compactor trucks have been strategically deployed to key operational corridors across the state to complement LAWMA’s existing fleet and improve the efficiency of waste evacuation services.
He assured residents that the Authority would continue to optimise available resources, strengthen waste collection operations, intensify enforcement activities, and deepen community engagement as part of efforts to maintain a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
The LAWMA boss also called on other government agencies and corporate organisations to partner with the Authority by investing in waste management infrastructure and initiatives that promote environmental sustainability.
He reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to deploying modern technology, embracing innovation, and building strategic partnerships to effectively meet the waste management demands of Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.
