Ikeja LG Empowers Pregnant Women, Nursing Mothers with Maternal and Child Wellness Programme

IKEJA, LAGOS – June 29, 2026 – The wife of the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Mrs. Fausat Temitope Dauda, has reaffirmed her commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare through the organisation of a Maternal and Child Wellness Support Programme for pregnant women, nursing mothers and infants across the council area.

IKEJA, LAGOS – June 29, 2026 – The wife of the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Mrs. Fausat Temitope Dauda, has reaffirmed her commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare through the organisation of a Maternal and Child Wellness Support Programme for pregnant women, nursing mothers and infants across the council area.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Dauda stressed the importance of prioritising the health and well-being of mothers and children, noting that every child deserves a healthy start in life while every mother deserves the support needed to raise a healthy family. She pledged to continue championing initiatives that promote the welfare of women and children in Ikeja.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector, describing a healthy population as the foundation of sustainable development.

He urged nursing mothers to utilise primary healthcare centres, ensure their children receive routine immunisation and always seek professional medical care whenever necessary.

The Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Awodele, encouraged mothers to practise exclusive breastfeeding, maintain proper hygiene and adhere strictly to immunisation schedules. Other healthcare professionals also educated participants on maternal and child health, nutrition and infant care.

The highlight of the programme was the presentation of care packages containing essential baby and maternal care items to nursing mothers and their infants. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Mrs. Dauda for the initiative, describing it as timely, impactful and a demonstration of genuine compassion for the people.

Dignitaries at the event included the Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Health, Hon. Abisola Omisore; the Wife of the Vice Chairman, Mrs. Omisore; the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko; the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Rasheed Ogunseye, alongside other councillors; the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Illo; the APC Ikeja Local Government Secretary, Princess Toyin Obaseki; the Special Adviser on Health, Mrs. Folashade Fajobi, who delivered goodwill remarks; as well as other Supervisors, Special Advisers and health professionals.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to implementing programmes that enhance the quality of life of residents, particularly women, children and other vulnerable groups, in line with the administration’s I.K.E.J.A. Agenda.
