The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at its 188th meeting held on May 6, 2026, approved a waiver for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and declared him duly screened for the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries.
According to a press statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, the decision was reached pursuant to the powers conferred on the NWC under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC Constitution, which empowers the committee to organise and supervise party primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances in the best interest of the party.
The party explained that the waiver followed overwhelming endorsements and votes of confidence received by President Tinubu from critical stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), the leadership and members of the National Assembly, and other statutory organs of the party during the APC National Summit of May 22, 2025, and other major party events.
The NWC further noted that, as the incumbent President and leader of the APC, President Tinubu had already undergone screening and clearance ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, making another physical appearance before a screening committee “redundant and unnecessary.”
The resolution effectively clears the President to participate in the APC presidential primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
