The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Saturday flagged off the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the Alausa area of Ikeja.
Speaking during the exercise, Comrade Dauda called on residents of Ikeja and all Lagosians to take full advantage of the reintroduced monthly sanitation programme by the Lagos State Government, stressing the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
He noted that the Ikeja Local Government under his leadership has consistently observed weekly environmental sanitation exercises every Thursday across markets and communities, adding that the council remains committed to sustaining the state’s monthly sanitation initiative.
The exercise saw the active participation of key officials, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore; the Council Manager, Mrs. Taiwo Odubeko; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adeyinka Illo; alongside other executive and management team members and officials of the Environment Department. Together, they carried out extensive cleaning across major streets in Alausa, including Kadiri Street, Odewale Street, and Kudirat Abiola Way.
Despite a downpour, the team proceeded to Ipodo Market, where Comrade Dauda led by example, personally clearing weeds and debris alongside his vice chairman and the SLG. The exercise continued to the Computer Village axis along Awolowo Way before concluding at the Anifowoshe area of Ikeja.
In his remarks, the Supervisor for the Environment, Hon. Edward Aragbonfoh, affirmed that the monthly sanitation exercise will be sustained, with the next edition scheduled for the end of May.
