INEC Launches Mega Voter Registration Drive in Lagos Central

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a Mega Voter Registration Exercise in Lagos Central, in a renewed push to widen voter access and boost citizen participation in the electoral process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a Mega Voter Registration Exercise in Lagos Central, in a renewed push to widen voter access and boost citizen participation in the electoral process.

The exercise was officially flagged off at Ajele Sports Complex, Lagos Island, by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Ayobami Salami, alongside members of the Commission’s state management team.

According to INEC, the introduction of the Mega Centre is a strategic response to the growing number of prospective registrants in densely populated urban areas. The initiative is designed to ease congestion at conventional registration points while delivering faster and more efficient services through the deployment of additional personnel and equipment.

The Commission noted that the centre will also improve accessibility by bringing voter registration services closer to residents in key locations, thereby enhancing the overall voter experience.

The exercise, which began on Monday, April 7, 2026, offers a range of services including fresh registration for new voters, transfer of registration, correction or update of voter details, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Speaking at the flag-off, Prof. Salami encouraged eligible residents, particularly first-time voters, to take advantage of the initiative and play an active role in Nigeria’s democratic process. He reiterated INEC’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded.

The registration exercise is scheduled to run until Saturday, April 12, 2026, across designated centres, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as the Commission intensifies efforts to promote voter inclusion and strengthen electoral integrity.
