President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled a new state-owned airline, Gateway Air, alongside a cargo facility during the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State—marking a major step in the state’s infrastructure and economic expansion drive.
The Ogun State Government said the initiative is part of a broader aviation strategy to position the state as a leading hub for air transport, logistics, and investment. Gateway Air is set to begin operations with two newly acquired aircraft, to be managed by ValueJet.
President Tinubu, who arrived in Ogun on Saturday, described the commissioning as a milestone achievement, underscoring strong collaboration between the federal and state governments in advancing transportation and economic growth.
In addition to the airport and airline launch, the President is scheduled to commission several strategic projects spanning transportation, energy, agriculture, and security sectors—highlighting a comprehensive development push in the state.
According to a statement from the PBAT Media Centre, key projects include the unveiling of Gateway Air’s aircraft, the airport cargo facility, and a 30MW Independent Power Plant at Onijanganjangan near Ewekoro. Major road projects slated for commissioning include the Ilishan–Iperu Road and the Sagamu–Iperu–Ode Remo–Sapade Road, as well as the Gateway International Airport access road.
Other projects include the reconstruction of the Old Ibadan Road—set to be renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway—distribution of electric bikes, agricultural equipment such as tractors, security vehicles, ambulances, and the Nigeria Customs Service Village and Forward Operating Base.
Welcoming the President, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the visit reflects a shared commitment to multi-sectoral development and economic transformation.
“These projects underscore our dedication to improving infrastructure, mobility, security, emergency response, agriculture, and energy support,” the governor stated.
He added that the initiatives represent a strong partnership between Ogun State and the Federal Government, aimed at building a more prosperous state while contributing to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
