Lagos Police Withdraw Taskforce from Traffic Enforcement

The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from all traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.

The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from all traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.

The directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, is aimed at streamlining traffic management operations while promoting professionalism, accountability, and clarity in the discharge of responsibilities.

Despite the withdrawal, the Command clarified that the Taskforce will continue to carry out its other statutory duties and operational mandates.

The Police further noted that the Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit is not the only taskforce operating in Lagos. Residents and motorists were therefore urged to verify the identity of personnel and agencies before making allegations, especially on traffic-related matters.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Command called on members of the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with all legitimate security agencies.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on March 31, 2026.
