The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has applauded the Lagos State Government for reintroducing the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise across the state, describing the move as a reflection of responsive and responsible governance.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party noted that the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to protecting public health, enhancing environmental cleanliness, and fostering greater community involvement in building a more livable city.

The APC highlighted that Lagos, regarded as one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, requires sustained collective action to maintain environmental standards. It stated that the revival of the sanitation exercise demonstrates the administration’s resolve to strengthen environmental management while encouraging residents to take ownership of their surroundings.

According to the party, the sanitation exercise had historically played a significant role in promoting a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents. Its return, it added, would help tackle sanitation challenges, improve waste management practices, and raise awareness on drainage maintenance and environmental hygiene.

The party further described the initiative as a strategic step toward reinforcing preventive public health measures, reducing environmental risks, and safeguarding communities from sanitation-related hazards.

While commending the state government for the policy, the APC called on residents, community development associations, market groups, youth organisations, and other stakeholders to actively support and participate in the exercise.

It emphasized that environmental sustainability remains a shared responsibility and stressed that the success of the programme depends largely on the cooperation of all Lagosians.

The party expressed confidence that the reintroduced sanitation exercise would contribute significantly to the ongoing transformation of Lagos into a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city.

The statement was signed by the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo.
