LASBCA Confirms Collapse of Four-Storey Building in Ogba, No Casualty Recorded

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has confirmed the collapse of a four-storey building on Adu Street in the Aguda area of Ogba, Lagos.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has confirmed the collapse of a four-storey building on Adu Street in the Aguda area of Ogba, Lagos.

According to the agency, the building—used for residential purposes and also housing a private school—collapsed on Monday, causing panic within the neighbourhood. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded as students, staff and other occupants had evacuated the premises shortly before the incident occurred.

Officials of LASBCA, working in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders, promptly visited the site to assess the situation and ensure public safety.

As a precautionary measure, residents of nearby buildings were advised to temporarily vacate their premises while structural integrity checks are conducted on surrounding properties to determine their safety and stability.

The agency disclosed that preliminary findings suggest that some form of construction activity had been ongoing at the property prior to the collapse. However, it stressed that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.

LASBCA urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with relevant authorities as technical assessments and safety procedures continue at the site.

The agency also reiterated the need for property owners and developers to strictly adhere to regulatory guidelines and maintain proper communication with building control authorities when undertaking construction, renovation or structural modification projects.

LASBCA said further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
